CUT & PRESS
LEARN WOODCUT & LETTERPRESS PRINTING
10/24 - 11/21Tuesday Nights 6-8pm
This class will focus on two printmaking process techniques—woodcut & letterpress—while each student creates a limited-edition run of a unique print. Woodcuts (image carved onto a piece of wood) & letterpress (hand-set movable type) have been used in harmony from 1550 to now, to make illustrations & prints. Students will learn how to hand-set type, proper use of the Vandercook SP-15 & other presses in the Print Studio, layout of the California Job Case, how to create their own imagery using both traditional & contemporary woodcutting techniques, & more. After completing this course, students will have prints that will last for hundreds of years, & the skills to utilize future Open Studio Hours to keep creating!
Taught by Helen DeVitt Jones Print Fellow Zack Smith, & Studio 4 Artist-in-Residence Victoria Marie Bee.
No previous experience required. This course is designed for both students new to relief printmaking, & also an expansion on previously taught letterpress courses.
only $95 (includes ink, paper, wood)
class fee also includes free access to Open Studio Hours on Saturdays 1-6pm & Mondays 4-9pm
