"About Place: Paintings of Laura Lewis"
October 4-November 30, 2013
Christine DeVitt Exhibition Hall
The Llano Estacado, The Great South Plains, The High Plains, The Caprock, TheTexas Panhandle: all names for a landscape that has inspired artists, musicians and poets for generations.
Laura Lewis paints the beauty and vastness of the land and sky with vibrant colors worthy of a West Texas sunset, and a delicate sensitivity that comes from a deep emotional connection to the land and culture.
Sweeping vistas remind the viewer of the limitations of man upon nature. Paintings of farm equipment out in the fields convey the overwhelming scale of the land and capture a way of life that ties and binds all of us that live on the South Plains.
Laura's paintings are portraits of the tamed and untamed land, rugged and cultivated, wild and spiritual.
